Chiropractic Care

With natural, non-invasive chiropractic care you can not only get out of pain but get back to all the activities in life you enjoy!

Most new patients are coming to us because they have pain somewhere. Typically, these are spinal-related complaints such as neck pain and back pain. But at Grand Island Chiropractic, we deal with all extremity complaints as well-shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist, hip, knee, ankle and foot.

Seeking to Determine the Cause

Our primary goal is to diagnose the origin of patients’ pain. Our evaluation tools are very similar to what their medical doctor would use. However, our care of them is quite different. Rather than relying on medication to deal with their pain and in many cases just mask it, we in chiropractic identify and localize the pain “generators” and formulate a plan to eliminate those elements that are causing the pain.

Chiropractic is a hands-on approach in manipulating both bone and soft tissue that allows healing to begin.

The benefits of this type of care are to not only feel better BUT to function better as well. Pain and dysfunction affect our daily lives. Getting rid of the pain at times is just the tip of the iceberg. Lifestyle change, discussing work environments and looking at daily habits such as eating, sleeping and posture are all evaluated. The benefit of this multifaceted approach is a person who not only feels better but functions better.

The conditions we address most often are the following:

  • Disc problems throughout the spine
  • Spinal scoliosis
  • Spinal sprains and strains

  • Spinal stenosis
  • Spinal arthritis of all kinds
  • Shoulder, hip, wrist, knee and other extremity pain

The primary techniques include some high impact/thrusting techniques such as Diversified and Thompson. But we also use many low-impact methods such as Cox and Active Release. Here’s a closer look at each one:

Active Release Technique (ART) is a soft tissue management system. This is used for soft tissue adhesions, nerve entrapment and myofascial pain. ?

Cox Technique is a science-based spinal protocol to evaluate and specifically diagnose spinal problems including, disc bulge and herniation, spinal stenosis, facet syndrome, spinal anomalies and many more spine-specific problems. Our practice has three Cox 8 treatment instruments that are the workhorses in our office to allow the most efficient treatment of spinal problems.

Diversified Technique is probably the technique utilized the most in chiropractic offices. It typically involves “cavitation” or a popping sound as the joint is moved.

Thompson Technique is a portion of the adjusting instrument that drops 1/2″ as pressure is placed on specific sites to allow the adjustment to take place.

Does it hurt to get adjusted?

We often get asked, “Is this going to hurt?” The answer thankfully is no 95% of the time. We do everything we can to not only eliminate their original complaints but also to do it in a way that is comfortable for each patient.
How is your clinic different from other chiropractic practices?

One of the differences that you’ll find at Grand Island Chiropractic is our reputation within the medical community. We have a great working relationship with many specialty groups including orthopedic, neurosurgical, obstetrics and gynecology, radiography and imaging and family practice. Many of these physicians are our patients and recognize the benefit of chiropractic care.
If you can't help me, will you refer me to someone who can?

Yes, in most cases we will help you. If we can’t, we will tell you that and help direct your care to the best specialist in our area.

An array of therapies

We blend the chiropractic adjustment with many therapies. To aid in creating stability and strength following the adjustment we will use many forms of physical therapy. Electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, traction (both cervical and lumbar) and the various soft tissue techniques listed above. We also offer Cold Beam Laser therapy.

Sleep support

As you spend a third of your life sleeping, you want to make sure your head is supported with a high-quality pillow. We have recently added a new pillow line, Pillowise. It is a semi-custom memory foam pillow that the patient is sized matched to perfectly fit their neck and shoulders.

Three specific measurements along with sleeping position and sleeping surface are evaluated and plugged into a computer program, resulting in a specific pillow for each patient. We have found that a proper pillow enhances many neck and upper back problems.
